Brigadier (Retd) George Mansford AM – Old Warrior Batting On

The following information on Brig (Retd) George “Warrie” Mansford AM was sent on by LTGEN (Retd) John Caligari AO DSC.

Report from John Caligari who recently paid George a visit:

“I’ve had a few ask how George is going.
My parents and I recently visited Greorge at Wundurra for his 91st birthday, and he is doing well and in good form.
He remains very interested in the progress of the RAR, the treatment of soldiers by Tully, and the status of the Royal Commission’s recommendations and their impact on the treatment of veterans and their families”.

Those of us who served in the 1980’s, particularly those who served on 11 Bde HQ or in one of the units of 11 Bde, will remember Brigadier George Mansford as the inspirational Commander of 11 Brigade at that time. He is  remembered in equal parts with great respect and affection and indeed with some trepidation for his constant demands for us to give nothing less than our best.

Those who have been following his fortunes over the last couple of years know that he was hospitalised some 18 months back his health has not been the best in recent times.

It was good to receive the above report and we add our best wishes for his 91st birthday and for the years yet to come.
