Association Member Peter Nelson, is in the process of completing the latest update of members of the 31st Battalion AIF from World War 1. This has been an ongoing project which has already taken an immense effort on his part. Further information is being gathered and verified from different sources leading to an increased understanding of the lives of the men who fought in this savage global conflict.
Of particular significance in this latest update of “O Members” is the information on 31st Bn RSM (and later Lt) James O’Rourke MC. Below is a brief excerpt and a picture from Peter’s email:
“Had some satisfaction in locating the original 31st Battalion’s RSM, James Francis O’Rourke, Reg No 1. His story is a sad one, had been searching for this man for some time. Am attaching the photo of 31st Bn Officers aboard HMAT ‘Wandilla’ -AWM photo A03378. James Francis O’Rourke is standing at extreme back left of photo.”
